The United States Map and Making 10

This week we focused on the different landforms in the United States.  We created a physical map of the United States and explored a variety of landform books.  The students voted on which landform they would .like to learn about and the winner was.... MOUNTAINS AND VOLCANOES!

In math we have been focusing on combinations of 10.  We learned two new math games (How Many Am I Hiding? and On Off) this week that will help us with our fluency of math facts totalling to 10.

How Many Am I Hiding?

This game focuses on using 10 cubes and fiding a missing addend.  The students stack 10 cubes and hide a certain number from their partner.  Their partner must use the cubes shown to help them figure out how many are hiding behind their partner's back.  (Example:  5 shown + ? = 10 or
7 shown + ? = 10)

On Off

On Off is a game where 10 chips are used and dropped onto a piece of paper.  The students count how many land on and how many land off the paper to help with fact fluency to 10.  This game can be played at home with pennies, buttons, or even Legos with combinations of 7-20!
