The Daily Five

Over the past few weeks we have been working on building our stamina as readers to prepare for our Daily Five choices (Independent Reading, Partner Reading, Work Work, Listening to Reading, and Writing).  The students have also been learning new strategies to help them become better readers.  One strategy we have focused on is cross checking.  Cross checking allows the students to check the picture, check the word/sounds and check to see if it makes sense.  This is a strategy that they can use at home when reading aloud to you!  Check out the motions below that go with this strategy!

1.  Check the picture

2.  Check the word.

3.  Does it make sense?

We enjoyed using our wiki sticks to help us practice Word Work and making, spelling, and reading our focus words.
