Plants, Rainforest, and Subtraction

We enjoyed watching our plants grow and bloom!  After our plants grew flowers we learned about pollination and cross pollinated our plants.  We waited patiently and were so excited to see seed pods growing on most of our plants after our cross pollination!

During our study on plants we've also been learning about the rainforest.  We've learned about different plants that live in the rainforest and created lianas and epiphytes (air plants) to create a rainforest environment in our classroom.

This week we began focusing on subtraction and counting backwards.  The students learned a new math game, Roll and Record Subtraction.  This game encourages counting backwards and helps with subtraction fluency.

Past Two Weeks

Last week we were busy learning about shapes and their attributes.  We created shape posters with partners to sort shapes.

We also learned about using our background knowledge to help us create mental images when reading.

We were excited to begin a new unit on plants and plant our own seeds.

This week we were excited to see our plants growing!

We had fun celebrating Red Ribbon Week and Halloween this week!
